To complete coalescence of latex particles curing has traditionally been carried out after the coating process in the oven cabinet. As a more efficient method in-process-curing in the coating equipment has been reported previously. For many types of vibrational spectroscopy Sound Optics NIR was chosen to monitor the curing progress. The peak change of the quaternary ammonium group contained in EUDRAGIT® RS/RL 30 D (Ammonio Methacrylate Copolymer Dispersion, Type A and B) was investigated. The aim of this study was to evaluate NIR spectroscopy as a monitoring tool for the curing process. Additionally, in-process-curing was detected by NIR and evaluated in terms of identification of essential factors and their extent, based on the strong statement for the scientific approaches from Q8 and Q9 ICH guidelines.
