White Paper: Improved Quality Control For Biorepositories Using Microvolume Technology

By Audrey Chang, Ph.D., Director, Laboratory Services, Fisher BioServices

Fisher BioServices, experts in cold chain logistics and repository services, is the world leader in biological specimen management supporting all sectors of the life sciences industry including: Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Academic and Government. Clients include the American Cancer Society, the Department of Defense, and the National Cancer Institute. Services provided by Fisher BioServices include turn-key solutions for specimen kit assembly and collection, lab processing and repository services to help ensure the customer's success. The state-of-theart laboratory service with its extensive sample analysis capabilities is a key component of ensuring that samples handled by this facility maintain the highest standards of product integrity. QC of samples derivatives (DNA, RNA, Proteins) is critical for ensuring the integrity of stored samples. In the past, samples were routinely processed using conventional spectrophotometers or plate readers. However, the need to have some prior knowledge of sample concentration before running the analysis, the potential for errors and variability when making dilutions, waste of precious samples and on-going consumables costs made these methods less than desirable. Recently, Fisher BioServices adopted a novel microvolume technology, the Thermo Scientific NanoDrop 8000 Spectrophotometer, which eliminates all of these issues.
