Mar Cor Purification's New Crossflow Filter Provides Improved Performance For Latex Microparticle Processing

Mar Cor Crossflow Filter part of expanded process filtration product line

Plymouth, MN - Mar Cor Purification announced that it's new crossflow Tangential Flow hollow fiber filter has been successfully applied to the processing of latex micro-particles application, resulting in improved performance. Processing of bioprocess solutions is a critical step in many manufacturing operations where high product recovery and viability of expensive components is important. Mar Cor introduced this larger flowrate product in late 2006 and has been in trials with several manufacturers to demonstrate performance advantages.

The hollow fiber Crossflow filter is a device that incorporates many thousands of hollow fibers with fiber ID's of 0.28 microns and larger to process fluids down the center of the fiber. A portion of the liquid is retained & solids greater than the micron cutoff, while passing some of the liquid thru the fiber, free of solids larger than the micron cutoff. This technology is better for processing fragile cell material and high levels of solids, while maintaining high flux rates because of the very smooth inner wall of the fiber. Mar Cor's hollow fiber technology was derived out of blood processing applications, which are notoriously difficult to process.

Chris Fournier, Vice President of Marketing of Mar Cor Purification stated "Mar Cor has expanded the crossflow product due to numerous requests by researchers to develop higher flow products of the line due to superior performance results experienced with lower flowrate devices. Based on results demonstrated so far, I think it would be prudent for any bioprocess application that would benefit from improved processing performance, to try these devices." Mar Cor's solid reputation in the hollow fiber business with other FiberFlo filters provides a level of assurance that the filters are manufactured to the highest standards.
