EAST HILLS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 2003--Pall Corporation (NYSE: PLL) and Nalge Nunc International Corporation, the world's leading supplier of laboratory bottle top filter units, today announced a multi-year, multi-million dollar supply and co-branding agreement. The agreement gives Nalge Nunc International exclusive rights to Pall's new Supor(R) machV membranes for the bottle top filtration market. Nalge Nunc International will exclusively use Pall's newest proprietary membrane in its line of NALGENE(R) filter units and bottle top filters.

There is a large and growing market for sterilizing grade filter materials throughout the life sciences industry, from drug discovery to patient bedside applications. They are used wherever sterility at point of use is imperative. The laboratory bottle top filtration market is among the growing applications for Pall's Supor machV membrane technology.

Ken Harris, President of Pall Biosciences said, "We developed the best performing membrane for bottle top devices and the market leader embraced it. By combining our complementary strengths -- Pall's in materials science and NALGENE's in laboratory plastics --customers will get the filtration performance they require in whatever format suits their purpose."

Ready to use, disposable bottle top filter devices are staples of research laboratories. They are used by the millions to sterilize cell and tissue culture media in laboratories around the world. Their convenience over reusable labware has propelled them into wide use and created a $30 million bottle top filtration market. NALGENE brought the first bottle top filters to market in the early '60s and continues to lead the market in innovation and market share.

While preassembled, presterilized plastic containers are essential for convenience, productivity ultimately depends upon the performance of the membrane. PES-based membranes, under the Supor brand name, were first introduced by Pall in 1986. Pall's breakthrough alternative to cellulose acetate subsequently displaced it as the industry standard just as the cell and tissue culture market began to take off.

"The PES material that Pall pioneered has become the 'ultimate' in cell and tissue culture membranes," said Craig Jack, President of Nalge Nunc International. "We're delighted to have exclusive access to Pall's latest advance to answer customer needs for convenience, processing speed and efficiency. This initiative furthers our mission of being the premier global supplier of innovative, reliable, high-quality products and then supporting them through excellence in customer service and technical support."

The Supor machV membrane is twice as fast as Pall's existing Supor line for filtering cell and tissue culture media and is an improvement over any other membrane filter on the market. In addition to cell and tissue culture filtration, the Supor membrane can be optimized to provide some of the fastest flow rates and highest throughputs in the filtration of buffers, biological solutions, protein additives and difficult to filter fluids such as serum. Supor machV offers all of the benefits of the Supor membrane including sterilizing grade retention, stability to gamma irradiation and broad chemical compatibility. It has been validated in safety tests including the USP Biological Reactivity Test in vivo 88.
