Pfizer, NicOx Eye Treatment Trial Falls Short

A Phase II trial from Pfizer and its partner NicOx failed to meet its primary endpoint in studying PF 03187207 in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

The study compared the safety and efficacy of several doses of the drug with Xalatan (latanoprost) in 112 Japanese patients. At day 28 of the study, the two highest doses of the drug failed to significantly reduce diurnal intraocular pressure.

Based on these results, Pfizer has decided not to launch a Phase III program for the drug outside of Asia. NicOx and Pfizer are discussing the rights to the product and its potential continued development and commercialization, NicOx said.
