Sartorius Receives Two ‘iF Product Design Awards 2010’

International Forum Design GmbH has awarded Sartorius the international ‘iF product design award 2010' for two of its products. The ‘Cubis' premium laboratory balance and ‘arium pro' laboratory water purification system beat a range of international competitors in the Medicine/Healthcare category. The new products developed by this process and laboratory specialist won over the jury of 24 experts in all 11 criteria categories including quality of design, degree of innovation and environmental impact. The ‘iF product design award' is one of the best renowned design competitions in the world and will be awarded for the 56th time in 2010. Overall, the jury assessed some 2,500 entries from 39 nations. Participants competed against one another in 16 categories.

Reinhard Vogt, Member of the Executive Board for Marketing, Sales and Service, feels that the award reflects the group's drive for innovation: "High quality products are not just characterized by top-quality components but also by intuitive, comfortable and secure operation. Therefore, when developing our products we also incorporate the working environment of our customers and any relevant regulatory standards into the process from the outset, combining the latest technology with a clear design". The fact that Sartorius received 2 awards at the same time will serve as a stimulus for developing other new customer-oriented products, says the marketing expert.

The awards were given to 2 pieces of equipment from the laboratory segment. The new Cubis laboratory balance is a range of premium balances launched onto the market by Sartorius at the start of 2009. The balances feature a modular design and can be custom-configured and adapted to changing requirements of different working environments. Thanks to the newly developed operating concept, they meet the latest requirements of laboratory balances – from the simple weighing of substances to managing complex processes. The arium pro laboratory water purification system is a device which produces ultrapure water for use in laboratory analysis. Lab workers can obtain the analytically-pure water quickly, safely and in a cost-effective manner. For example, it can then be used in ion chromatography, cell cultivation and protein purification.

The design awards will be handed out on 2 March 2010 on the first day of CeBIT in Hanover.
