Presentation: The Importance Of Non-Destructive Package Integrity Testing
Earlier this year, Oliver Stauffer of PTI Inspection Systems gave a presentation on "The Importance of Non-Destructive Package Testing" during the Pharmatex Bio-Pharmaceutical Technology Conference in Cork, Ireland. Stauffer, sales/applications engineer for PTI, discussed package inspection technologies and options that are available for non-destructive testing. He addressed the advantages and benefits of implementing a non-destructive inspection method, and focuses specifically on the issues of cost, test method (subjectivity vs. hard data), sampling, and market trends.
At a PDA (Parenteral Drug Association) meeting earlier this year, it was published that in 2005, seal integrity issues rose to the top 10 concerns companies are facing. In 2006, seal integrity moved to position #2 as a major concern for the pharmaceutical industry.
Package integrity problems continue to plague industry.
Package Integrity Common Misconceptions
- If you don't see a leak, it isn't leaking
- If you validate all packages and lines, you won't have leakage problems
- If you validate packages during R&D using dye or microbial ingress, no additional package integrity work will ever be needed
