The MD8 is an air sampler which operates based on the filtration principle. It utilizes an integral vacuum pump to draw a specified volume of air through the gelatin membrane capturing airborne microorganisms and viruses, which then may be processed using microbiological and virological methods.
The Gelatin Membrane Filter Method allows for an accurate, reproducible and quantitative recovery of airborne microorganisms. The gelatin membrane ensures efficient capture of microorganisms while maintaining the viability of these organisms once captured. These filters have a retention efficiency of 99.9995% with Bacillus subtlis niger spores at an inlet velocity of 0.25 m/s and 99.94 % efficiency with T3 coli phages at 80% relative humidity.
