Spinfilters are primarily used for medium perfusion in cell culture processes, therefore. It is absolutely essential that living cells are consistently retained. Additionally, the clogging of the membrane must be prevented by the construction of the spinfilter and also by the used membrane. This blocking would bring the fermentation to the end. Spinfilters have historically been made of several layers of stainless steel mesh requiring extensive cleaning between uses. Sartorius Stedim Biotech has developed, in cooperation with Saxonia BioTec, a new disposable system that can be used with stirrer shafts of varying sizes by using the adapters included with each filter.
