Autoclavable PP Blisters With Filled Disposable Syringes

Source: Korber Medipak Systems

At the end of the packaging process, the packaged syringes should meet the requirements for sterile devices in the operating room. Therefore, the finished blisters are autoclaved at 121 °C (2 bar) for 15 minutes. Only minimal deformation of the blisters is tolerated, so that the syringes can be used in the operating room without problems after this thermal treatment. The use of polypropylene with a thickness of 500 μm as the bottom foil material requires suitable blister geometry. The lid material used is pure sterile paper, because a varnish or a composite material would delaminate during the autoclaving process. This is a unique challenge for the packaging process, even more so at a rate of 230 blisters per minute.
