Best Test Practice For Seal Strength

Source: AMETEK Brookfield

The rapid growth in demand for pharmaceutical products has necessitated the need for testing procedures to guarantee the integrity of packaging materials. With various fixtures and accessories now available to perform a battery of failure tests, Texture Analyzers have become popular inexpensive tools for this purpose throughout the packaging world.

The aim of packaging a product is to be able to maintain the cleanliness and sterility of the product throughout all stages of the life cycle: manufacturing, transport, warehouse storage, store shelf. To achieve this, the integrity of the sealed package and the seal strength must both be assessed.

A seal strength test measures the quality of the seal itself. Using the tension test mode on a Texture Analyzer, seal strength is measured by pulling apart the seal and directly measuring its capacity to resist separation.
