How To Accurately Measure Low WVTR

Source: MOCON, Inc.

Organic light emitting diodes (OLED) is a light emitting technology used to make flexible electronic displays and lighting. They are constructed by placing two or three layers of organic material in between a cathode and an anode. When an electrical current is applied, the organic material gives off light.

OLED displays are extremely sensitive to any amount of water vapor permeation; the slightest exposure to moisture will significantly decrease its shelf life. A water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of 1x10-6 g/(m2 • day) has become the accepted industry standard to achieve a device lifetime of at least 10,000 hours.
