The Outsourced Pharma West Conference and Exhibition yesterday announced that Andy Skibo will be a featured panelist for the conference program. Mr. Skibo is EVP Operations for MedImmune, as well as RVP Supply Biologics for AstraZeneca. He joins a collective of industry executives participating in the conference, representing Merck, Shire, Pfizer, and others.

Outsourced Pharma West will be held November 10-11 in San Francisco and is co-produced by BayBio, Northern California’s life science association, and Life Science Leader, a publication with a worldwide readership of 51,000 in the biopharma and pharma industries. The educational focus of the conference is best business practices impacting the outsourcing of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing. The program will be attended by leadership from emerging through big pharma and biopharma companies.

Mr. Skibo currently leads biological manufacturing operations across seven sites, with responsibilities for all AstraZeneca engineering projects worldwide. Previously, he supervised construction of an award-winning MedImmune antibody-manufacturing facility in Maryland and oversaw large-scale capital projects at all MedImmune facilities. Earlier in his career, Mr. Skibo held positions of leadership with Amgen, Genentech, Foster Wheeler Corp, and Monsanto, among others, with experience in manufacturing, engineering, commercialization and development.

“When you consider that Skibo has nearly 40 year experience in the area of pharma/biologic manufacturing, it seemed a natural to invite him to share his wisdom,” says Rob Wright, chief editor of Life Science Leader magazine. Conference session topics at Outsourced Pharma West include outsourcing relationship models, building an internal outsourcing infrastructure, and effective scaling strategies.

Mr. Skibo appeared on the cover of Life Science Leader magazine in May. His feature article addressed a risk-based approach to modeling and planning for biologics manufacturing capacity. In a recent conversation, Mr. Skibo shared with Wright one of his biggest concerns — getting the manufacturing equation correct when it comes to balancing cost versus quality, while managing risk around the supply chain. “We are thrilled to have him as part of the OPW faculty,” Wright says.

Outsourced Pharma West is co-produced by BayBio, Life Science Leader, and OutsourcedPharma.com, with support from the Life Science Training Institute and Rondaxe.
