White Paper: RFID Security For The Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Comes Into View

Source: TAGSYS RFID Group, Inc.
What article on pharmaceutical technology would be complete without a word from the venerable FDA? The ubiquitous oversight body has come out in favor of RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) as being the technology of choice so to speak, for remedying a multitude of sins in combating drug counterfeiting, black marketing and gray marketing. The FDA further expects that we will see a move by companies to begin applying EPC (electronic product code) tags (or chips) that will automatically authenticate and track products moving through the distribution system. This move will without question create a de facto electronic drug pedigree. The pilot test program being conducted by wholesaler McKesson for WalMart is perhaps the most highly publicized example of what's to come in the not too distant future in terms of technological supply chain management reform.
