Texas A&M University System facility takes delivery of four extended-width mobile clean rooms

Walker Barrier Systems, a producer of isolation and containment equipment and part of Wabash National Corporation, announced recently the addition of an extended-width mobile clean room to its line of containment and aseptic systems for the pharmaceutical, biotech and nuclear industries.

The extended-width mobile clean room provides 1,350 square feet of workable space, double the space of a standard-width model. All Walker Barrier Systems clean rooms include doors with windows, door closers, interlocks, adjustable sweeps, airlocks, cascading pressure operation between rooms and dry chemical fire suppression systems.

The Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station took delivery of four extended-width units in December 2014 for semiconductor wafer fabrication. FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies Texas, LLC (formerly Kalon Biotherapeutics), located on the Texas A&M College Station campus, received eight Walker Barrier Systems standard-width mobile clean rooms in 2013 and 2014 for BSL1, 2 and 2+ vaccine production. It recently ordered five additional standard-width units for delivery later this year.

Walker Barrier Systems units, constructed with Wabash National’s DuraPlate® composite panel technology, are built to support a broad array of processes and platforms that are required to develop vaccines or contain biological agents.

“The extended-width clean rooms are approximately 48 feet long and 36 feet wide, providing full-scale manufacturing capabilities,” said Dave Nick, Wabash National’s vice president and general manager, Walker Engineered Products. “In addition, both standard- and extended-width models are designed to be joined together to create larger suites to fit specific application requirements. Our mobile clean rooms bring together Walker Barriers Systems’ leading solutions in isolation and containment into a rapidly deployable and flexible manufacturing facility.”

Walker Barrier Systems has more than 20 years of experience providing isolation equipment to more than 100 companies in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. For more information, visit www.walkerbarrier.com.
