The first of our series featuring senior level executives with deep ties to Japan. Santen Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of Japan’s Santen Ltd., a leader in the ophthalmological field. In his four years at the prominent Japanese pharmaceutical company Santen, our speaker has been promoted twice and is currently President and CEO of the company’s U.S. operations as well as Chief Scientific Officer for the company globally. Dr. Shams will discuss his groundbreaking role within the company, including what approaches have enabled him to be effective as a non-Japanese executive operating at a senior level within a Japanese organization. Dr. Shams will also discuss how Santen is increasing its global presence, the importance of the U.S. organization in Santen’s globalization initiatives, and the challenges faced by Japanese pharmaceutical companies as they operate more globally.
