Shimadzu Offers New Reports For Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry
Shimadzu Scientific Instruments released several technical reports for liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS), including research on artificial colorants, polymer additives and nutraceuticals. All reports are available for download at www.ssi.shimadzu.com/apps/.
"Analysis of Artificial Colorants by Ultra-fast Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry" describes analysis, retention time and peak repeatability using Shimadzu's LCMS-IT-TOF mass spectrometer, Prominence UFLC, and high-speed Shim-pack XR-ODS columns. Research determined that this method shortens analysis time to one-sixth of that obtained using conventional LC while attaining excellent repeatability, and compound identification could be conducted with greater certainty.
Manufacturers use polymer additives to adjust the performance qualities of plastics. Shimadzu researched the "Identification of Unknown Polymer Additives by LCMS-IT-TOF." This technique, which uses MSn measurements and accurate mass, helps to identify commercial additives, including ultraviolet light absorbing agents and stabilization agents.
Shimadzu also studied "Natural Product Analysis Using LCMS-IT-TOF," due to the rising popularity of remedies consisting of nutraceuticals that are found in foods, roots and herbs. With LCMS-IT-TOF, researchers obtained chemical and structural information by using the fragmentation power of the ion trap, and the high resolution and mass accuracy of the time-of-flight mass spectrometer.
