Marek Leads in Protein Products

When N/A needs an in-house expert on the development of protein products, the company turns to Mike Marek, senior pharmaceutical scientist.

"Mike is unusually accomplished in the area of protein products," says Dr. Garnet Smith, director of pharmaceutical research. "He has the kind of experience that gets a project off to the right start, and, when necessary, he knows when to make midcourse adjustments to keep it on track and on time."

Prior to joining SP, Mr. Marek was a founder of RhoMed Inc., now Palatin Technologies, which develops protein and peptide-based radiopharmaceuticals. At Rho-Med, he developed product formulations and key in-process assays and served as clinical liaison.

A licensed registered pharmacist, Mr. Marek earned a B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Illinois. He earned his M.S. in Nuclear Pharmacy from the University of New Mexico, where he has also served as a clinical faculty member.

With more than 20 years experience, Mr. Marek's responsibilities at SP include project management, technology transfer, formulation and freeze-drying, and development of novel drug delivery systems such as liposomes, proteins and peptides.

Mr. Marek is a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and a past member of the Rho Chi National Honor Society.
