Siemens, Applied Statistics Inc. Adapt Statistical Process Control to PC Automation
Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. (Alpharetta, GA) has announced that it will incorporate two statistical process control (SPC) products – Applied Stat (real time SPC) and Analyst (offline SQC) – from Applied Statistics, Inc. (St. Paul, MN) into its line of PC-based automation products.

Applied Statistics, Inc. specializes in real-time, Windows-based SPC software for manufacturing. The company's Applied Stat and Analyst packages allows Siemens to incorporate real-time data into its industrial automation software products, including SIMATIC WinCC (HMI software) and SIMATIC WinAC (PC based control software). Applied Stat and Analyst allow Siemens to extend its product offering into MES-centric applications.

Designed as an offline analysis and setup tool, AppliedStats works from historical data extracted from databases and other files.

Real-time SPC is the preferred way to control manufacturing quality. The SAP-certified Applied Stats SPC package supports acquisition and analysis of quality metrics during manufacturing, immediately detecting the slightest drift from optimum production values while analyzing for causes. Applied Stats connects to a wide array of measurement and recording devices, automatically displaying the resulting quality information. Quality managers have access to the full analysis capability of the software and the ability to filter or lock out undesired data.

Analyst offers all of the statistical analysis features of the Applied Stats real-time SPC system and is designed as an offline analysis and setup tool which works from historical data extracted from databases and files. Direct access to SIMATIC WinCC's standard SQL database supports tight integration and direct use of shop floor historical data.

The SPC/SQC package is designed for use in a wide range of industries such as automotive and food and beverage, pharmaceutical, fabrication, chemical or plastics.
