Catalent Pharma Solutions, one of the leading providers of advanced dose form and packaging technologies as well as development, manufacturing and packaging services for pharmaceutical, biotechnology and consumer healthcare companies, announced the successful completion of the first influenza vaccine manufacturing campaign from its new prefilled syringe manufacturing facility in Neder-Over-Heembeek, near Brussels, Belgium.
The influenza vaccine production, for a number of major customers serving global markets including Europe and Japan, exceeded 21 million prefilled syringes for the 2007 campaign.

"Our new facility gives us substantial additional capacity to serve the high-demand prefilled syringe market globally, with an experienced team already in place."
The new Catalent facility is a state-of-the-art prefilled syringe filling/finishing operation, purpose built for this activity, which doubles the available previous prefilled syringe capacity. It will replace existing facilities in nearby Brussels. Catalent received initial European regulatory approval for this facility in July 2006, and expects to have the first FDA product approved at the facility in 2008.
Catalent also offers prefilled syringe development capabilities in Limoges, France, and development and small scale prefilled syringe manufacturing in its recently opened North Raleigh, North Carolina facility.
