Moisture protection is one of the biggest challenges in formulating pharmaceutical dosage forms. Several pharmaceutical actives are sensitive to moisture which often results in chemical decomposition to inactives and/or unpleasant change of appearance. Various techniques have been examined for solving the problem. The uses of low permeable packing materials, capsules, microencapsulation and coating with polymers have been reported as possible solutions. Aim of this study was to compare the efficiency of commercially available moisture protective film coating polymers. In an earlier study different polymers were tested with respect to their water vapour permeability (WVP), which already gave an indication for the polymers' protective potentials. This study focused on the effects on drug hydrolysis during storage which is more relevant for commercial dosage forms.
