Enteric coating is widely used in oral solid dosage forms to prevent degradation of acid sensitive drugs or the premature release of actives that may irritate the stomach. Coated multi-particulates can be filled into capsules or compressed into tablets and are widely used in solid oral dosage forms. For early or initial clinical studies, dosing the API in a capsule formulation may provide a shorter development timeline for initial or proof of concept studies. The EUDRAGIT® L 100 polymer is widely used in targeting drug release in the jejunum. Dissolution for this polymer is from pH 6.0 to 7.0 which can give site specific drug delivery to the jejunum or colon. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of curing at 40°C for two hours in a tray dryer oven and storage conditions on drug release from theophylline granules coated with EUDRAGIT® L 100 with regards to processing and dissolution performance.
