Matrix granulation is the most preferred technique for sustained release formulations due to the ease of operations. However controlling the release of soluble drugs with high doses is often found to be challenging due to weight limitations of the dosage, from a formulation perspective. EUDRAGIT® NM a neutral methacrylic acid based polymer is a good candidate for sustained release formulations and is available as a 30% w/w aqueous dispersion. In the present study, the effectiveness of the polymer in controlling the release of a soluble drug has been tested with Bupropion hydrochloride, having a water solubility of 312 mg/ml1 in a matrix granulation process. The functionality of the polymer provides multiple solutions for matrix processing which helps designing versatile formulations. EUDRAGIT® NM was effective in achieving matrix granulations using conventional processing equipments.
