Mr. Wolf's presentation will focus on container closure integrity and will provide an update of current best practices of integrity and leak testing of containers used for parenterals. Starting from the traditional dye test, alternative technologies will be presented and pro's and con's will be discussed. Technologies presented will include vacuum decay and high voltage methods.
"The pharmaceutical industry as a whole has recognized the demand for improved inspection methods that are more efficient, reliable and that over time cost less because less waste is produced," stated Wolf. "The industry also recognizes the benefits of excluding subjectivity from the testing process, which eliminates misleading results and results that vary from operator to operator. There are better, more advanced technologies available that conform to uniform standards such as the ASTM, and simplify the inspection and validation processes."
About Heinz Wolf
Heinz Wolf has focused on developing inspection technologies for the packaging industry that perform with a high degree of precision and reliability, and simplify testing and validation processes in the food, pharmaceutical, medical device and container industries. Heinz received his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the Ingenieurschule in Bern, Switzerland. He joined PTI in 1985 and has held the position of general manager of PTI Inspection Systems since 1997.
About PDA
The Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) is a leading global provider of science, technology, regulatory information and education for the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical community. Founded in 1946, the PDA relies on the technical expertise of 10,000 global members. PDA's mission is to develop scientifically sound, practical, technical information and resources to advance science and regulation for the pharmaceutical industry. In addition to sponsoring educational conferences and training courses, the PDA publishes the PDA Journal of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology and the monthly PDA Letter. In 1997 PDA established the PDA Training and Research Institute (PDA-TRI) to manage its educational programs.
