What we are not going to do is to try to convince you that we know what is best for YOUR lab. If there is one thing that we have learned in our travels is that all labs are different. Each of you has your own unique challenges and constraints.

Those could be different budget constraints (capital equipment funds, supplies budget, maintenance funds, training expenditures, etc.)

You have different levels of personnel: some easily adapt to change, some don't; some are careful to follow detailed instruction, some are not; some take care of equipment, some don't.

The different analytical challenges are enormous…whether it is cranking data out or identifying impurities; lots of sample, limited amounts of sample; clean samples or dirty samples; lots of sample prep, no sample prep; methods etched in stone vs. other labs that need to develop new methods routinely.

Different long-term goals and objectives…help determine when and how to make changes in your lab.

The bottom line is that YOU as a responsible analyst need to decide what is best for your particular situation. That means educating yourself and looking at all new technologies in the context of your particular analytical environment.
