High Barrier Multilayer Blow-Fill-Seal Containers: A Comparison Of Four Different Analytical Methods For Oxygen Permeation

Source: rommelag USA, Inc.

By Tim Kram, Michael W. Spallek, Johannes W. Geser, and Martin Groh

In order to widen the use of blow-fill-seal technology in packaging for sensitive pharmaceuticals and medicinal products, multilayer technology (co-extrusion) was developed.

This paper describes barrier material selection and the use of mathematical modeling to identify efficient container and layer designs concerning the improvement of the oxygen transfer rate (OTR).

For the verification of the results from the model four different analytical methods have been applied to LDPE / EVOH / LDPE multilayer ampules filled with aqueous solutions.
