Tyvek Liner Addresses Industry Concerns About Product Contamination From Paper-Based Packaging Systems

Phillipsburg, NJ - Mallinckrodt Baker, Inc., a part of Tyco Healthcare, introduces the Flowmor packaging system for specialty chemicals. The Flowmor packaging system provides virtually free-flowing salts, and eliminates the tedious and sometimes hazardous manual techniques required to break up caked product, thereby improving operational efficiency and reducing the potential for workplace safety incidents. The Flowmor packaging system now features a tear-resistant Tyvek interior liner.

The Flowmor packaging system accomplishes the free-flowing environment by combining an exterior moisture barrier and desiccant bags in the interior. Made of a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) drum, the exterior moisture barrier has a gasketed, resealable lid that provides a hermetic, moisture-resistant seal to prevent outside moisture from entering the container and reaching the salt. The interior desiccant bags absorb moisture contained in the product. To absorb moisture from the salt, the bags are placed between the exterior barrier and the interior Tyvek liner so they will not come in contact with the product.

To address the pharmaceutical and biopharm markets? concerns about product contamination from traditional paper-based packaging components, Mallinckrodt Baker has designed the Flowmor packaging system with a high-performance liner made from highly durable Tyvek protective material. The lightweight liner, which contains no additives or anti-static agents, allows moisture from hygroscopic salt to migrate through the liner and away from the salt, minimizing the formation of secondary crystalline bridges between salt crystals. The Tyvek material used in this liner meets the requirements of Title 21 of the United States Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR 177.1520).
