A Bright Spot in the Employment Picture

N/Aime when layoffs are the rule at many companies, there are some bright spots. <%=company%> is one of them.

Since SP was created in 1997 as part of a management buyout of Pharmacia & Upjohn's Albuquerque, New Mexico facility, the new company has expanded its workforce by 33 percent.

The number of SP employees has grown to 198 from 147, says H. Joseph Larsen, president of the Albuquerque-based company, which specializes in the contract manufacture and development of sterile, small-volume, liquid and lyophilized pharmaceuticals.

While the company hires locally when appropriate to the position, SP is currently conducting a nationwide search for additional employees, and Larsen expects employment ranks to surpass 215 by mid-year.

"But they all share a couple of important points," Larsen says. "They are stable jobs and they are good jobs. In this day and age, that says something about the company."

Larsen says the company's growing workforce is a response to a growing customer base, including large pharmaceutical manufacturers and emerging biotechnology companies.

<%=company%> offers a comprehensive range of services including commercial manufacturing and packaging, formulation, development, laboratory testing, pre-clinical and clinical supplies production, quality control, and regulatory support.
