Amino Acids and Nucleic Acids Provide the Foundation

Ever since the introduction of monosodium glutamate as a flavor enhancer in 1909, Ajinomoto's amino acid operation, along with our food products operation, has been an integral part of the company's business. In the 1950's, Ajinomoto began supplying various types of amino acids for intravenous solution applications. Since the 1960's, Ajinomoto has pioneered the development of new fields for amino acid applications, commencing with the sale of amino acid additives for animal feed and amino acid-based ingredients for cosmetics and toiletries. The amino acid-based sweetener Aspartame, commercialized in the 1980's, marked a significant achievement in our company's amino acid operation.
