Alcan Awarded EAFA Trophy For New Formpack® Packaging With Desiccant

Alcan has been awarded The European Aluminum Foil Association's (EAFA) 2007 Alufoil Trophy for its new Formpack® laminate with integrated moisture barrier desiccant.

"We are honoured to receive this prestigious award," said Michael Rubenstein, President, Alcan Global Pharmaceutical Packaging. "At Alcan Packaging, we are continually looking to develop new applications and add to our product portfolio. This application is a concrete example on how Alcan innovation and R&D expertise can benefit our customers and the entire pharmaceutical industry," he added.

Formpack® laminate with integrated desiccant was developed by Alcan Packaging Singen and provides a 100% moisture barrier that reliably and safely protects moisture-sensitive, dry pharmaceuticals for years. The extended shelf life is made possible through a sophisticated packaging solution that restricts cross diffusion via the sealing layer.

"Winning the Alufoil Trophy reinforces our development policy to continuously improve our packaging to ideally protect products from outside influences and to offer consumer-friendly, easy-to-handle packaging solutions," said Dr. Renate Neumann-Schäfer, Managing Director, Alcan Packaging Singen.

The Alufoil Trophy contest - the only international aluminum foil competition for the industry - is annually awarded by the EAFA and brings attention to the unique barrier and other packaging merits of this material. EAFA's Head Judge David Smith, Kraft Foods' Director Packaging Global Technology and Quality International, said: "This is an excellent product linked to developing markets where medicinal aid can often fail due to insufficient protection against climatic conditions."
