Alcan Medical Flexibles Americas' Asheville, North Carolina Facility Receives ISO 13485:2003 Certification

Alcan Medical Flexibles Americas' Asheville, North Carolina facility announced that it has received the ISO 13485:2003 quality management certification for medical device manufacturers.

"This achievement clearly demonstrates our commitment to quality, environment, health and safety and is particularly fulfilling because the ISO 13485 was established specifically for medical device manufacturers," said Michael Rubenstein, President, Alcan Global Pharmaceutical Packaging. "Reaching this milestone in our Asheville facility marks the first step towards the goal of achieving this certification in all four of our medical flexibles plants," he added.

The ISO 13485 outlines standards of systematic, management, resource, realization and remedial requirements for medical device manufacturing. It promotes an in depth quality management system, focuses on risk management, specific requirements for product traceability, and evaluates the effectiveness of corrective and preventative actions in the workplace.

"This achievement was made in an effort to align our facilities with our medical device manufacturing customers," said Jon Anderson, Director of Quality. "Alcan's Asheville location is the first of four manufacturing facilities to receive this certification. The remaining facilities: Commerce, California; Marshall, North Carolina; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, plan to obtain this certification by year end," Mr. Anderson concluded.

Alcan's Medical Flexibles Asheville facility current environment and safety certifications include ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS.
