Alpharma and Xactdose to Offer Unit Dose Line

The U.S. Pharmaceuticals Division (USPD) of Alpharma Inc. has formed an alliance with Xactdose, Inc., a packaging company specializing in oral liquid unit-dose medications. The two companies will manufacture, package, and market a line of unit-dose products, including many Alpharma products, which will be available in unit-dose for the first time. Under the terms of the agreement, Alpharma has purchased the trademark "Xactdose" and will have complete rights to this trademark for other future unit dose products.

The first product offered by the alliance is Lactulose, an oral liquid indicated for constipation, available in 30mL unit dose packages. Alpharma USPD currently has more than 200 liquid, topical, and specialty pharmaceuticals on its product roster, many suitable for unit-dose packaging, and the Alpharma USPD-Xactdose alliance will quickly move beyond liquid applications, according to management. Alpharma will also manufacture and market topical ointments and unit-dose nebulizer solutions as a part of this alliance.
