Aqua-Chem has a rich history dating back to 1931 when two entrepreneurial gentlemen with a unique idea simplified the installation of industrial boilers by creating the first "packaged" boiler. No more buying separate components they delivered the whole system all on one skid. John Cleaver, the inventive engineer and Raymond Brooks, the East Coast businessman gave birth to the company which became a force to reckon with in the world of boilers and eventually seawater desalination equipment.

Aqua-Chem has three Divisions. An operating division provides accounting services, IS computer support, and human resources in support of two product divisions. Cleaver-Brooks provides industrial boilers and related equipment. The Water Technologies Division, traditionally known as Aqua-Chem, is a leading worldwide supplier of industrial water equipment.

Aqua-Chem has supplied the world with a full spectrum of water equipment since 1951; in that year a special seawater desalting system was designed and built for the U.S. Army. The product line grew quickly, and John Cleaver applied his "packaged" concept to Offshore Water-Makers and Bottled Water Stills. This idea, along with a patented Spray-Film® device, was incorporated in all of Aqua-Chem's water equipment.

Today, the name Aqua-Chem is known around the world for a large variety of water purification needs, such as:

  • Desalting - On and Offshore
  • Pharmaceutical USP/WFI
  • Bottled Water Stills
  • Evaporators covering the needs of the Chemical Process Industry
