AstraZeneca Launches NEXIUM Direct Program

By Estel Grace Masangkay

AstraZeneca announced it is kick-starting NEXIUM Direct, a direct-to-patient program that provides eligible patients the option of brand name NEXIUM direct delivery to their home. NEXIUM Direct is part of AstraZeneca Direct, a web based service that delivers select brand name prescription drugs from AstraZeneca directly to patients’ home.

Linda Palczuk, Vice President of Cornerstone and Commercial Excellence, said “Today, people are taking a more active, participatory role in their healthcare. With this in mind, AstraZeneca has created NEXIUM Direct, giving patients and prescribers a choice when it comes to how they receive branded NEXIUM from AstraZeneca. NEXIUM has been a treatment option for acid reflux disease for over 13 years, with more than 236 million prescriptions written. We’re proud to offer patients and prescribers another way to receive this important treatment.”

Nexium is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which is currently one of the most common chronic diseases in the U.S. GERD affects over 60 million patients in the U.S. alone. NEXIUM relieves persistent heartburn caused by acid reflux disease and can also heal possible damage to the esophagus caused by acid reflux disease over time. Most esophageal erosions heal in 4 to 8 weeks but may vary in individuals.

Patients can avail of NEXIUM Direct services with only a legitimate prescription from their physician. “Enrollment in NEXIUM Direct is easy. There are no coupons or co-pay cards required; all a patient needs is a valid prescription from a physician. Patients simply go to www.purplepill.com and click on the NEXIUM Direct link to complete the online enrollment form and provide a valid prescription for NEXIUM. During and after enrollment, patients will have access to a 24-hour support center to contact via email or phone if they have questions, the opportunity to request auto refills, and free home delivery,” AstraZeneca said in its press release.

The drugs are dispensed by a team of certified pharmacy technicians and registered pharmacists available under a collaboration with AZ partner Eagle Pharmacy.
