The new age of mobility has already changed how consumers live, work, shop and entertain themselves. Not surprisingly, the immense popularity of mobile communications is also beginning to make an impact on how care is delivered and is expected to make a real mark on transforming healthcare.
Healthcare organizations are well aware of the need to reduce health costs, which have skyrocketed to 18% percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), and the new mobile technologies can help healthcare stakeholders do that. According to a recent Deloitte report, the use of mobile devices and applications will enable healthcare providers to increase productivity, with savings projected at $305 billion over the next 10 years. Among the enhancements that will produce these savings are reduced travel time, better logistics, faster decision making and improved communications. Similarly, a Brookings Institution study predicts that remote monitoring technologies alone can save nearly $200 billion in chronic disease management costs over the next quarter century.
