In 1929, Barnhardt Manufacturing built a bleachery to provide bleached cotton for medical uses and more sophisticated filtration purposes. Recognizing the growing demand for bleached cotton, we built a new state-of-the-art bleachery in 1979. In 1994, we developed a hydrogen peroxide bleach procedure in response to customer requests to eliminate chlorine from our manufacturing operation. As a result of increased demand, it was in 1989. In 1999, we began yet another expansion in new technology with the addition of a continuous bleaching line equipment.

The bleachery supplies cotton as raw materials to four of our divisions : Barnhardt Cotton Products, Richmond Dental, Carolina Absorbent Cotton, and Intrinsics. We also provide bleached cotton products as a raw material to the world's leading manufacturing of health care, feminine care and consumer cosmetics cotton products and non-woven fabrics, as well as to industrial product manufacturers and yarn spinners.

Our bleached cotton customers select their products from a broad array of cotton blends manufactured for specific end uses. Our relationship in the textile industry, forged over 100 years and four generations, provide Barnhardt with the broadest source of raw material supply and a thorough understanding of the dynamics affecting the economics of cotton.

Bleached cotton is processed according to strict customer demand, thereby customizing fiber process and finish to meet exact specification standards, processing capabilities and end-use products. Out technical service team has at its disposal specialized pilot equipment, designed to our specification, for product development and testing. Our fully functional laboratory is equipped to perform all necessary testing for our domestic and global partners.
