The Laboratory Automation Operations (LAO) segment of Beckman Coulter Inc. (Fullerton, CA) has joined the Collaborative Electronic Notebook Systems Association (CENSA), a global trade association dedicated to developing the next generation of R&D-related electronic recordkeeping software.

Beckman Coulter brings its LabManager laboratory information management systems (LIMS) product to the alliance. According to Bob Voelkner, worldwide sales and marketing manager, LabManager "unifies the laboratory, works in real time with manufacturing operations, updates corporate resources planning systems, and delivers critical information for decision making at the users' desktops." The product is currently used in quality control laboratories of pharmaceutical, food and beverage, oil and gas, and chemical companies.

As a CENSA supplier member, Beckman Coulter will gain: priority access to CENSA's corporate end users and their automation system development projects, system and component specifications and other knowledge deliverables, sponsorship of specifications for adoption, receipt of CENSA RFPs, and participation in the associations certification and quality branding programs.

CENSA members design, develop, and implement electronic record keeping systems that take research and product development record keeping activities from paper-based systems to electronic systems. The association includes members from research and development companies in the life sciences, chemical, healthcare, high technology, consumer products, and related industries.

Beckman Coulter Inc. is a provider of instrument systems and complementary products that simplify and automate processes in life science and clinical laboratories.
