Carrington establishes specialized unit to offer full range of R&D services

Carrington Laboratories, Inc., announces the establishment of a specialized development unit which will act either independently or as an extension of a client's research and development team. The unit will concentrate on the development of high-end, value-added products from medical devices to nutraceuticals. Developed products will be produced in Carrington's cGMP and ISO 9001-certified pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in Texas and Costa Rica.

Carrington will offer to clients a full range of specialized research and development services for domestic and international markets. The Company is upgrading equipment and adding specialized labeling and language capabilities. Additionally, to reduce development time and overcome time line problems, a specialized section of Carrington's internet web site will allow customers to interact with Carrington's team on a 24-hour basis. As value added, Carrington will make its proprietary raw materials available to clients for inclusion in new product formulation, thus protecting a client's product from being duplicated by lower-end providers.

This research and development unit is headed by Mr. G. Scott Vogel, Carrington's vice president of operations, who has over twenty-six years of specialized manufacturing experience. Before joining Carrington earlier this year, Mr. Vogel held executive positions with Lone Star Laboratories, CBI Laboratories, Goodier Cosmetics and Cosmetic Laboratories.

Formulation development is under the direction of Mr. Lawrence J. Murphy, a veteran formulations chemist with over forty-five years in new product development with many prestigious companies such as Charles of the Ritz, Coty, Colgate Palmolive, Revlon, Apree, Mary Kay, and Jhirmack.

Mr. Murphy is supported by a technical staff which includes Santiago Rodriguez, D.Chem., a seven-year employee of Carrington. Dr. Rodriguez has extensive knowledge in the research, development and manufacture of the Company's proprietary raw materials, Acemannan Hydrogel used in skin care products, Manapol for use in nutraceutical formulations, Hydrapol, a new cosmetic-grade powder, and other specialized raw materials being developed.

Mr. Vogel stated, "Carrington, to my knowledge, is the only company with ISO 9001 certification, cGMP facilities and a dedicated research and development team making its services available to the industry. Through our vertical integration of research, raw materials, formulations, manufacturing and packaging, we can develop a line of products from concept through delivery to customers that will meet or exceed all regional, national or international standards."

Carlton Turner, Carrington's president and CEO, added, "We are committed to partnering with our customers and becoming the quality leader in specialized formulations and manufacturing. With Scott, Larry, Santiago and the rest of the technical team, we believe we have the foundation for success. We organized this unit in response to customer request. Now we are in position to accommodate domestic and international customers who recognize the quality afforded by ISO-certified and cGMP operations. The team is currently working on one international and ten domestic development projects." Turner added, "I believe this is the beginning of a successful business unit."

Carrington manufactures its own wound and skin care products which are marketed to hospitals, acute care centers and nursing homes throughout the U.S. by Medline Industries. Carrington also produces a line of nutraceutical and consumer products with Manapol® sold under the AloeCeuticals and Snow & Sun brand names.

Carrington Laboratories, Inc., is an ISO 9001-certified, research-based biopharmaceutical company currently utilizing naturally-occurring complex carbohydrates to manufacture and market products for mucositis, radiation dermatitis, wound and oral care; manufacture and market the nutraceutical raw material Manapol and cosmetic-grade raw material Hydrapol; and market consumer products under the AloeCeuticals brand.
