Celgene Corp. Names Joseph J. Day, Jr., Senior VP, Business Development
Joseph J. Day, Jr. has been appointed senior vice president, planning and business development for Celgene Corp. Day's responsibilities will include the planning and execution of strategic partnering, licensing, and acquisition programs for the company's immunotherapeutics, and chiral pharmaceutical technology platforms.
Day is a 28-year veteran of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. He joins Celgene from Cephalon, where he led a business development group that successfully completed several major partnerships and licensing collaborations. Prior to Cephalon, Day served for four years as vice president, business development in the Wyeth-Ayerst division of American Home Products.
Previously, Day held positions in marketing, product planning and licensing at Johnson & Johnson, Schering-Plough Corp. and Merck & Co.
"Joe has a wealth of experience in both the international and domestic pharmaceutical industries which makes him uniquely qualified to bring Celgene's growing pipeline of products the visibility and value it merits," said Sol Barer, Ph.D., president and CEO of Celgene.
Day has an MBA in marketing and finance from Rutgers University and a bachelor's in pharmacy from Fordharn University. Day and his family reside in Middletown, N.J.
