ChargePoint PharmaSafe® - Contained Powder Handling In OSD Formulation

Source: Chargepoint Technology

The PharmaSafe Split Butterfly Valve (SBV) powder containment system ensures high integrity worker protection when transferring potent products from process to process. The handling of ingredients during commercial scale OSD production involving potent API’s in processes such as granulation and tablet compression can pose significant risk to operators and challenges associated with automation and material handling without compromising containment performance are a must. The PharmaSafe system can be adapted with several accessories to meet many different process scales and set ups, in any case nanogram level containment performance can be achieved to reduce these associated risks of exposure.

This animation shows how a ChargePoint DiscLock (DL) type SBV technology can be integrated in to typical tabletting production process including granulation and compression steps with IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Container) as the primary method of handling powder ingredients. The DiscLock SBV, as a fully automatic automated system, is integrated into IBC lifting and docking devices for repeatable alignment which are shown where it is necessary or beneficial due to accessibility or process scale. Dedicated IBC washing devices demonstrate how an IBC can be cleaned offline without breaching containment.
