Hewlett-Packard Company announced on March 2 that the latest revision of the HP ChemStation for gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography (LC), liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MSD), capillary electrophoresis (CE), UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) and analog-to-digital conversion (A/D) includes quality improvements and performance enhancements to help chemical and pharmaceutical analysts be more productive.

The most significant new features are the ability to control instruments across local area networks (LANs) and the ability to publish analysis reports on intranets.

Using the latest LAN technologies, ChemStation controls instruments from any PC and breaks the physical distance limitations of conventional communication interfaces. Now the PC no longer needs to be next to the instrument, saving precious bench space in the lab and allowing analysts to work from the comfort of their offices.

The new revision of HP ChemStation also includes an HTML export feature, which creates chromatographic reports in Web-page format ready for publishing on intranets.

Why Networking?
In many chemical-analysis laboratories, instruments and data systems controlling them are typically isolated from each other, impeding the flow of information from sample to final report. With the latest developments in networking and the advent of intranets, chemical and pharmaceutical analysts now can control their instruments, check on operating status, and organize data from a single desktop without wasting time on repetitive manual tasks.
