The human colon plays a crucial role in health and gastrointestinal disease. However, its study is hindered by intricate cell-cell interactions and dynamic conditions crucial for colon function. Traditional in vitro models fall short in replicating this complexity, and animal models present challenges due to variations in species, impeding clinical translation. To overcome these hurdles, the Emulate Colon Intestine-Chip was developed. This chip is the only model to accurately recreate in vivo physiology, incorporating pre-qualified, biopsy-derived primary human organoids and colonic endothelial cells in a dynamic and tissue-specific microenvironment. By leveraging this model in the research of inflammatory response and immune cell recruitment, we can gain deeper insights into disease mechanisms and better evaluate potential anti-inflammatory drug candidates.
