A new compressed air dryer that combines both refrigerant and adsorption methods in one unit has been developed by the company in conjunction with Ultratroc.

This combination dryer- the Combitroc- overcomes the need for two dryers to cope with seasonal changes in pressure dew point, thus working at maximum efficiency while saving energy- guaranteeing a fast return on investment.

The unit operates by pre-drying the compressed air in two stages within the refrigerant dryer unit via the air/air-heat exchanger and the refrigerant/air-heat exchanger. The compressed air enters the adsorption dryer unit at a very low inlet temperature and is 100% saturated. It is then dried to the required pressure dew point (for example, -40°C) and the cold compressed air flows back from the adsorption dryer into the refrigerant dryer's air/air-heat exchanger. Here, the moist compressed air from the compressor is intensively pre-dried without using energy and is simultaneously re-heated before entering the compressed air system again, thus eradicating condensation on pipelines.

Because the compressed air is pre-dried within the refrigerant dryer, with resultant low residual humidity, the desiccant in the adsorption dryer operates at maximum efficiency, with operating cycles of approximately 48 hours- giving enormous energy savings- potentially in the region of 85%.

Thew new series, with a flow rate from 1.950 to 8.750 m3/h (values at 7 bar) is designed to operate at 4 to 10 bar pressure with other pressures available if required. The Combitroc can be supplied as an air-cooled or water-cooled version and operates with a minimum pressure drop.

Both dryers within the Combitroc are designed to work independently if necessary and have separate controls. In addition the adsorption dryer is designed to achieve the required pressure dew point without pre-cooling when the refrigerant dryer is out of operation, for example during maintenance. A full series of management and operational options are available.

All models in the series are supplied in unitized for with complete pipework, by-pass lines and filters ready for connection.
