UK Biotech Company Launches New High-Efficiency Disposable Chromatography Column Technology

A UK company is trialling a new product that promises major advantages for development and production in the pharmaceutical industry.

BioToolomics Ltd currently provides more than 40 types of highly efficient chromatography products from the company's base in the Consett Innovation Centre in Derwentside, County Durham. The Centre was developed by DIDA, the district's development agency, to attract high-technology companies to the area.

"Our patented resin technology provides from fifty to a hundred times improvement in separation efficiency and, coupled with our advanced chromatography columns, gives exceptional reproducibility and scalability," said BioToolomics founder Dr Chad Zhang. "The combination of resin, packing technique and column design allows scalable process development from a small disposable column to large production-scale disposable columns.

"These two factors mean that our new pre-packed columns are very cost effective when used as disposable items. We hope to bring products based on the new technology to market within a year and, are looking at possible partnerships with companies producing antibody based drugs in order to introduce the new technology into large-scale manufacturing."
