Plagued by slowing growth in mature markets, increased risk from patent expirations, and increasingly sluggish FDA approvals, our industry is facing an unprecedented level of uncertainty. Liquidity issues, job cuts, and potential healthcare reform are also contributing to the volatility we are seeing. Pharma and biotech companies are being forced to alter behaviors cross their organizations in order to prosper or, in some instances, stay afloat.

While doing more with less has always been a goal for Clinical Development organizations, it is now an absolute imperative. With few levers to manage costs in Clinical Development, better organizational planning is one of the best options to get more out of your clinical resources. While few organizations would invest significant resources in new studies unless they were part of a broader Clinical Development Plan (CDP), many do in fact execute their programs without a sufficient Organizational Plan (OP).
