Dompé Pharmaceuticals implements latest version of POMS MES technology from Honeywell
Honeywell POMS, a business of Honeywell Hi-Spec Solutions, recently announced that Dompé Pharmaceuticals S.p.A. of L'Aquila, Italy, one of Europe's fastest growing pharmaceutical contract manufacturers, has upgraded its former manufacturing execution system (MES) technology to Honeywell's latest, most functionally rich MES offering — POMS MES 4.2.
Dompé is a manufacturer of oral liquids and solid formulations as well as creams for topical application. Upgrading to the current POMS MES from a previous installation of the POMS software enables the company to meet the most stringent quality and consistency standards—while saving money, improving efficiency, and decreasing time-to-market.
At the company's state-of-the-art L'Aquila plant, POMS MES manages the entire production process, including the warehousing; dispensing; bulk manufacturing of syrups, creams, and granulates; as well as the packaging of syrups, creams, sachets, and ampoules. Multiple workstations are involved at each production step. The system is integrated with Dompé plant automation, as well as corporate sales, marketing, and quality assurance systems, providing a complete manufacturing solution.
Dompé's decision to upgrade their POMS solution across their L'Aquila operation follows the highly successful original implementation of POMS MES at the plant.
Dr. Gaentano Clavena, Managing Director of the production plant at L' Aquila, said, "POMS MES has proven key to our success at the L'Aquila site. POMS quickly optimized our entire manufacturing process and gave us immediate access to key decision support data throughout the process.
"The considerable level of satisfaction and success we've achieved with POMS MES, and the significant and highly relevant new functionality built into the latest version of POMS MES, are why, when the time came to upgrade our hardware and software systems to further optimize production, we again chose POMS."
Wayne Castner, COO of Honeywell POMS, said, "We have been very pleased to be able to grow our relationship with Dompé Pharmaceuticals in this ongoing manner. Dompé's reputation for excellence is widely known, and the implementation of the latest version of POMS MES reinforces their commitment to manufacturing at the highest quality and lowest unit cost."
"The company's scope of products manufactured is broad," Castner said, "but POMS makes the management of all critical variables simple, agile, accurate, and cost-effective. POMS MES enables Dompé to produce the full range of products, while remaining compliant with all manufacturing guidelines and meeting the demands of an increasingly competitive market."
The implementation was undertaken in accordance with cGMP rules for the pharmaceutical and information technology arenas. The new system functionality, designed to cover all user requirements, was validated with GAMP guidelines as a model.
Dr. Clavena said, "With the project now completed, Dompé is able to deal with GMP compliance with the security and confidence that comes from utilizing the most up-to-date version of the pharmaceutical industry's leading operations information tool, POMS MES."
Honeywell POMS is the leading provider of MES solutions to the pharmaceutical and consumer packaged goods industries, and POMS MES is the cornerstone of Honeywell's Unified Manufacturing™ Solution for the pharmaceutical industry.
