DPT Laboratories Opens New R&D, Manufacturing, And Distribution Facilities

DPT Laboratories, Ltd., a DFB company, has officially opened its new, 258,000-square foot research, development, manufacturing, and distribution facilities, signifying the company's growing presence in both the pharmaceutical industry and San Antonio.

The grand opening ceremony coincided with the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists annual convention in San Antonio, which DPT was instrumental in bringing to the city. Some 9,000 delegates from around the world were in San Antonio for the convention.

"We're thrilled to be part of the continuing emergence of San Antonio's biosciences economy," said DFB President and Chief Operating Officer, John W. Feik. "And it's been great this week to have the opportunity to show off our new facilities and our great city to convention delegates from some of the biggest companies in the industry. We're proud of what everyone at DPT has accomplished so far but we're even more excited about the future and this campus."

DPT Laboratories is known globally for its expertise in the development and manufacturing of semi-solid and liquid Rx, over-the-counter and biotech products for the world's leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare companies.

The new facilities at Brooks City-Base enable DPT to greatly expand its renowned formulation development and analytical chemistry capabilities while continuing to provide advanced development solutions to the company's growing clientele. In addition to the new research center, functions of the new campus include key, front-end manufacturing processes, quality control labs, storage of raw materials and finished goods, and worldwide product distribution.

The $24 million, dual-building project was developed for DPT Laboratories, Ltd., a DFB Pharmaceuticals, Inc. company, under an 18-year build-to-suit lease agreement with the Brooks Development Authority, which owns the buildings and is leasing them back to DPT. The two buildings encompass 224,000 square feet and 34,000 square feet, respectively.

"The Brooks Development Authority is pleased to welcome DPT Laboratories as a tenant at Brooks City-Base," said Howard Peak, Chairman of the Brooks Development Authority. "The addition of this world-renowned pharmaceutical company to Brooks City-Base is a major step in helping the BDA achieve our goal of transforming this former military base into a thriving bioscience, academic, industrial and technical campus."

Completion of the two-building campus at Brooks City-Base enables DPT to retain 136 pharmaceutical and biotechnology jobs in San Antonio, with the plan to expand to 250 by 2010. Current staffing at Brooks includes highly skilled warehousing and laboratory staff and technicians, as well as scientists representing multiple research disciplines.
