Eli Lilly integrates Semio's Tagger software to automate categorization of notes
Corporate portal market-leader Plumtree Software recently announced that pharmaceutical industry leader Eli Lilly and Company, has launched the Plumtree Corporate Portal as a collaboration platform for its employees worldwide. The Lilly corporate portal, known as myELVIS, for Eli Lilly Virtual Information Service, integrates key technology from Semio Corporation to automate the categorization of content from thousands of Lotus Notes and Documentum databases, speeding searches for information and helping spread expertise across the Lilly global enterprise. Lilly's distributed sales, marketing, manufacturing and scientific communities can access from the desktop patent information, market news, biomedical research and competitive intelligence.
The myELVIS portal is the framework for an enterprise-wide Web experience extending from the laboratory to the boardroom to the field. Lilly employees have a single, simple destination for healthcare news, patent services, reference works and the results of clinical trials. Lilly has integrated sophisticated taxonomy technology from Semio with myELVIS to facilitate the automated categorization of documents, Web pages and messages in the portal's document directory, speeding the creation of a global knowledge base. Semio's Tagger software is designed specifically to work with corporate portals and uses patented linguistic analyses to understand conceptual relationships among documents and assign them XML tags that can be read by the portal interface to ensure precise results for the user. Plumtree's open architecture provides Lilly with the ability to integrate existing applications easily into the portal platform as Plumtree Portal Gadgets, plug-in components that deliver key services from applications and Internet sites to the desktop. Lilly is developing gadgets for viewing data from project management and operational systems in portal pages.
What's in the Lilly Portal?
To assemble a complete view of business, Lilly employees can choose Plumtree Portal Gadgets for embedding personal productivity tools, newsfeeds, and collaboration tools in the desktop. Plumtree's Massively Parallel Portal Engine assembles application services simultaneously, rather than serially, to ensure high performance, reliability and scalability for myELVIS users worldwide. Now, employees have a single, simple Web destination for:
- searches across thousands of Notes, Documentum and other content repositories
- viewing news content from a broad variety of web sources
- visualizing data from operational systems
- collaboration tools to support on-line communities and virtual work-teams.
"As information housed on portals proliferates, finding the information that you want gets ever more challenging," said Roger Ferguson, CEO and president of Semio Corporation. "Use of Semio technology within the Plumtree Corporate Portal ensures that portal users can quickly and easily find the specific information they need -- no matter how large or globally dispersed the volume becomes. We are very pleased to be partnering with Plumtree on this very high-profile, high-performance portal."
