Entegris' Cynergy Components Win DuPont Plunkett Award

Entegris’ Cynergy Components Win DuPont Plunkett Award
Entegris Inc.'s (Chaska, MN) Cynergy fluid-handling components have won first prize for the Americas Division in the DuPont Plunkett Awards 2000, which recognize innovative Teflon fluoropolymer products. According to Entegris, Cynergy components, which contain Teflon PFA (perfluoroalkoxy), are the first nonmetallic products with industry-standard sanitary clamp connections to withstand the stringent steam-in-place/clean-in-place operations.

In winning first prize, Cynergy components beat out submissions from the aerospace, automotive, chemical processing, and electronics industries. A panel of independent judges evaluated entries on degree of innovation, breadth of application, and commercial significance.

DuPont's Plunkett Awards were established in 1988 to honor the 50th anniversary of the discovery of Teflon PTFE fluoropolymer resin by DuPont chemist Roy J. Plunkett. (Editors still talk about DuPont's full-day media event to mark the anniversary and kick off the Plunkett award. What I remember best about the event is feasting on inhuman quantities of the largest, tastiest shrimp on earth and receiving a brass keychain memento, which I still use. The technical presentations were pretty good, too.).

Cynergy fluid handling components (0.25-inch to 2-inch diameter) are made from Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved materials. The products also comply with U.S. Pharmacopoeia (USP) Class VI and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) criteria, as well as 3-A Sanitary Standards for dairy equipment. They also meet current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) requirements by offering complete drainability, plus SIP/CIP capabilities.
