Environmental protection and conservation is a sensitive subject in virtually every industry; regulations are routinely formulated—and enforced—to help assure clean air and water. Government at all levels—federal and state environmental protection agencies, as well as municipalities—is constantly adding or amending regulations affecting atmospheric emissions, and ground and water contamination.
Our environmental protection/conservation policies are vital for our continued success as well as your protection. Our 500,000 square foot refinery in Scottsville, NY, is considered to be a sophisticated facility for safely processing precious metal bearing materials. Precious metals refiners are governed by scores of environmental laws that, if violated, could result in substantial fines and legal fees not only to the refiner but to the generator of the material as well.
Our environmental concern has paid dividends for us and our customers, providing assistance towards understanding (and complying with) environmental regulations that affect us. We also works closely with appropriate regulatory agencies on issues such as environmental compliance, licensing, and documentation. Our management and operating staff participates regularly in seminars, symposia, and other activities hosted by government agencies on these and related issues, including representation on the International Precious Metals Institute's Environmental Committee. Our refining plant evaporates process water; discharge air is managed using advanced air pollution control systems. Materials leaving our plant include refined precious metals and glass-like borate slag; no hazardous production waste is shipped from this facility. Our knowledge of—and ability to comply with—the changing maze of environmental regulations is a key part of the Sabin difference for protection.
